Red Alert 3

Post by Pipboy_3000 on Thu May 22, 2008 2:35 pm

OOhhh I only just found out about this, aparently its due for a release the end of this year (i.e. mid 2009)

I wonder if they will make it better than C&C3 which if you ask me was pretty pants, but it may well be because its coming out on the consoles as well and as im sure everyone knows RTS just doesnt really work on consoles

My experience of RTS games on consoles is not good there pretty pants on consoles this is down to the gameplay and graphics, now the next gen consoles should sort the graphics problems but what bothers me is how hard they are to play the whole point of a RTS is you use a mouse now as far as i know no console has a mouse and moving troops vechiles and stuff is incredable hard with a controllers as sometimes you need to be accurate and its almost impossible to be really accurate with a controller.

graphics have never been a problem for console RTS games...

the only problem i have ever found with them is the constrol schemes trying to play with a control pad is the most frustrating thing you can possibly do.

I do wonder though why console developers havn't released any games that you can control with a keyboard and mouse

I can't see the controls being a problem anymore with the use of USB connections for controllers in the consoles so you should be able to quite easily plug a USB mouse and keyboard and play away, put they might be twats and decide you need to buy a special 60 set.

mmm Red Alert 1 and 2 were awesome...

I'm not sure anything can really live up to their awesomeness in my mind (I haven't played them for AEONS....)

RTS's on consoles aren't that bad once you get the hang of them. As it's so different to using a mouse and keyboard I find it really really hard to play them on consoles, but my brother can switch between them relatively easily.

Maybe if I put in the time he has to learning how to use console controls for it I'd be better. Very Happy

I do not like the route they have taken for the graphics in RA3 its so cartoony.

The amphibous and naval gameplay looks cool but the simplified resource system sounds lame.

well ra2 was quite cartoony, they have just pushed it one more that way.

makes a chnge from all the serious looking games out there

how can theyh simplfly the rescource system any further? in RA2 it was just building a resource depot and let your trucks collect ore?!

Im not so fussed about how it looks so long as it plays well

There are now fixed ore nodes that are invulnerable and have unlimited ore from what i can tell (watch the 15 min game play demo)

I just watched the video. That resource system seems ok, its just like having control points instead of control fields

I quite like the cartoony look, it makes it easier to tell whats going on. one thing i think C&C3 suffered from.

a lot of games have the fixed points that constantly generate resources, just leads to massive micro-management of these control points because in my experiance, he who has the most externat resource points wins (battle for middle earth is the biggest example of this i can think of)
