Re: Sega Dreamcast
The dreamcast was well ahead of its time, the only thing letting it down was the lack of good games. If it had some more attention from game developers it would have been an awsome console

Re: Sega Dreamcast
I agree ahead of its time which was a shame. However it wouldn't fit into the console market could you imagine 4 consoles to pick from ahhhhhh the choices are endless.

You have to bear in mind though that, if Sega had stayed in consoles, Sony may not have been as successful and Microsoft may not have entered it in the first place.
And no Microsoft would have been nice...

Re: Sega Dreamcast
Well, we almost did have no Sony.
WARNING, HISTORY LESSON APPROACHING
Nintendo wanted a CD drive for the Nintendo 64, drafted Sony in to make it for them.
A disagreement occurred, Nintendo scrapped the plans, Sony brought it out as their own console, the Playstation.
Here endeth the lesson.

Re: Sega Dreamcast
lets start at the beginning then..
1) Using CDs (as explained by tom)
2) The controllers awful lot like the SNES pads
3) Analogue sticks were on the N64 before the new PS1 controllers
4) Rumble controllers were on the N64 before the new PS1 controllers
5) The cube had trigger shoulder buttons and so does the PS3 now
6) As soon as nintendo announced their new controllers would have motion sensing OMG the PS3 controllers do as well
im sure theres more but i can't think of any more just off the top of my head

Re: Sega Dreamcast
thats just knit-picking lol
the overall view is:
ps3 = typical games console (more processing power etc than previous version)
wii = trades purely on innovatve controller, would you still think about your wii if there was no wiimote? no because you would be playing a cube

Re: Sega Dreamcast
well i probably would because i still play cube games....
to be honest i reckon that if Nintendo said that all their games from now on are going to be played sitting on your head Sony would probably stop all games in development and make them so they are played upside down
and then charge you more to do it....

Re: Sega Dreamcast
Well said Stef.
The fact remains that Nintendo bring these kind of comments on themselves.
For every Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3, there's 50 games like Pippa Funnell's Extreme Pony Riding.
It's rather unfortunate really...

Re: Sega Dreamcast
i was watching a zero puntuation video yesterday and it said that there have been 10 Mario titles released in 2007 17 if you include virtual consol.
Theres only one person imitiating nintendo and thats nintendo.
as for OMG the ps3 has motion sensing same as the wii. ok its possible that ps3 thought hmmm thats not a bad idea, but motion sensing control pads are by far not a new inovation, they've just never been done so well.
developers of all technology take ideas all the time, its how competition works, do what they are doing, just better.
starting to sound like a fan boy now so i will say this, i enjoy all three consols, each has its strengths and weaknesses.
and its gone a bit off topic so will go back on track, the dreamcast was an awesome consol, (anyone play shemue or however the hell it was spelt)
i have heard that sega have recently spent money repatenting the deamcast name or some legal mumbo jumbo like that, maybe a second one in the works
